> Official Plan
Richmond
Hill is in a period of transformation. It is a very important
time. Our Town has grown. Now, it must mature.
Dave believes that our growth will change and we need to
be ready. Dave recognizes that our Town needs a total Official
Plan Review. We also need an updated transportation master
plan, a new parks and recreation master plan and further,
we need a review of the Official Plan document for the downtown
core. Why do we need these things? We need them because it's
our Town and we need to determine our own direction in order
to continue to be the community that many people choose to
call home each and every year.
"Our Town is more than pavement and bricks. It is a
community of shared values, shared aspirations and shared
responsibilities. Our citizens expect and deserve a safe and
clean environment, one that provides places to work as well
as to play."
New growth will be of a different type than we have seen
in the past. The focus will shift to commercial, office and
industrial in order to create jobs for our residents and futures
for their children. New residential growth needs to be manageable
and respectful of existing neighbourhoods and their unique
character. Medium density should be encouraged along routes
serviced by public transportation. Sprawl must be discouraged
and contained.

"We need to see a better mix of uses (retail, commercial,
leisure, institutional and residences). It's starting to happen.
We can't just keep getting into our car for a quart of milk."
