Issues > Conservation

Richmond Hill ConservationDave has served on the Executive Committee of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority for the past three years. The T.R.C.A. has jurisdiction over ground waters, streams and rivers from Lake Simcoe to Lake Ontario. The Authority has advanced complete watershed studies for all the major headwaters in this Region in order to understand, and more importantly, protect, these valuable natural resources. Dave sat on the Steering Committee of the Oak Ridges Corridor Park Management Plan in order to fulfill his commitment from the last election to preserve, as a natural habitat and education resource for our Town, the 1,000 acres of Moraine Land now held in trust for the citizens of Richmond Hill.

"We have the unique opportunity to create one of North America's largest conservation areas right here in our Town."

Dave worked hard to help broker the deal between the Conservation Authority and the Provincial Government. The final agreement contains a method for paying the upkeep so that the lands do not become a burden on the residents of Richmond Hill. The solution preserved the Bathurst Glen Golf Course as an active course for our community. The proceeds will go to the creation of a trail system and the on-going naturalization of the area. The next challenge will be the creation of safe crossing zones for residents and wildlife alike.

"The group developed some unique ideas in this area. I am eager to bring them forward."

As a result , linkages will one day be opened to all of our Town's natural heritage areas.

"It is my hope that the day is not far off when our residents will be able to explore our Town from Highway Seven up to Lake Wilcox and beyond."
