2010 Clarkson Cup Championships

2010 Clarkson Cup

In March 2010, Richmond Hill played host to the Clarkson Cup Championship, which was played out over two days (March 27 & 28) at the Elgin Barrow Arena. A crowd of close to 1,000 spectators packed the stands to watch the Brampton Thunder face off against the Minnesota Whitecaps in the Championship game. With a 4-0 win, the Whitecaps took home the Cup and wrote their place in the record books as the first American team to win the Clarkson Cup. More


Richmond Hill Mobility Accessibility Foundation Recognized for Breaking Down Barriers

Mayor Dave Barrow presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Andrew Fisher and Elaine Burrows of the Richmond Hill Mobility Accessibility Foundation in recognition of the $15, 000 donation made by the Foundation to the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department.

Ground Breaking of New Viva Lines on Hwy #7
December 14, 2009

Dedicated bus lanes get green light. The first 37-kilometre phase will connect Markham Centre with Richmond Hill at Yonge and Hwy. 7.
The first section is set to open before the end of 2010, with a further 67 km extending along Hwy. 7 and up Yonge Street by 2013.


Olympic Torch comes through Richmond Hill
December, 2009

Mayor Dave Barrow, Deputy Mayor Brenda Hogg and MPP Reza Moridi celebrated the arrival of the Olympic Flame in Richmond Hill. The entire council and many Richmond Hill residents came out to show their support of our Canadian athletes for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.


Richmond Hill Residents Winners at Ontario Senior Games
December 14, 2009

On behalf of Council, Mayor Dave Barrow presented Certificates of Appreciation to the Richmond Hill winners of the Ontario Senior Games Winterfest 2009, held February 11-13 in Brockville, Ontario. These 5 winners are active members at McConaghy Seniors’ Centre. In table tennis, Ursula Lacock and Emilia Megulescu won Gold. In badminton, Monika Leung and Armand Grandinetti won Gold.


Mayor’s Golf Tournament Gives Local Charities a Million Reasons to Smile
October 13, 2009

Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament Committee Co-chair Councillor Arnie Warner announced on October 13, 2009 that thanks to a record-setting $109,000 raised this year, the tournament has now surpassed the $1 million mark. Mayor Dave Barrow and Councillor Warner both thanked the golfers, presenting sponsor RBC Financial Group, as well as other corporate sponsors, whose support over the past 16 years has helped the Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament grow to be one of the most popular and successful charity tournaments in Southern Ontario. Since its inception, the tournament has benefited 34 different local charitable groups. At the meeting, this year’s charities: Big Brothers Big Sisters of York, Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada and Sandgate Women’s Shelter of York Region, each received a cheque for $36,500.
