York Regional Police Celebrates Police Week
York Regional Police Chief Armand La Barge is inviting all York Region residents and
media to the York Regional Police Annual Open House to kick off Police Week 2009, which
runs May 9 to May 16, 2009. This year’s theme is Policing Possibilities: Inspiration for
the Future.
In keeping with the theme, the open house will be held at the Community Safety Village of
York Region on Saturday, May 9, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for an informative and
fun-filled day that will include demonstrations and exhibits. Children will have an
opportunity to ride in miniature cars through the Safety Village and take part in a
bicycle safety workshop. Members of the York Regional Police Emergency Response and
Traffic Units will provide demonstrations and Police Service Dogs from the Canine Unit
will also be there. Parents and children will also have a chance to sit inside the York
Regional Police helicopter Air2 and boats from the Marine Unit. The Community Safety
Village of York Region is located in Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area at 3291 Stouffville
Road in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.
Each of the five York Regional Police District headquarters will be open to the public
for tours every evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. during this week. As well, there will be a
number of special presentations and events across the region during the week. The
Community Safety Village will host groups from Girl Guides of Canada throughout the week
as they complete their Law Awareness Badge. Youth Employment Forums will take place on
Monday, May 11, 2009, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Huron Heights Secondary School, located
at 40 Huron Heights Drive in the Town of Newmarket and on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 from 12
p.m. to 2 p.m. at Alexander Mackenzie High School located at 300 Major Mackenzie Drive
West in the Town of Richmond Hill. A full schedule of events is available on the York

In addition, York Region Seniors are encouraged to attend any District Headquarters for a
tour and to interact with the District Commander and other police officers. The Seniors
Tours are scheduled each day from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the following districts:

The York Regional Police Male Chorus will also be performing at the Newmarket Seniors
Meeting Place located at 474 Davis Drive, Newmarket, on Monday, May 11, 2009, from 7 p.m.
to 9 p.m.
