Gala revs up $200,000 boost for the arts

The Super Grand Gala lived up to its lofty title Friday, Apr. 17 as more than $200,000 was raised for The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts and For Love of the Arts.

The event held at Le Parc Conference & Banquet Centre was highlighted by numerous cultural performances of song and dance, the presence of local dignitaries including Richmond Hill Mayor Dave Barrow and Richmond Hill MP Bryon Wilfert and a fundraising raffle with the top prize being a 2009 Lexus I S250, donated by Lexus of Richmond Hill.

The lucky winner among the 600 patrons in attendance was the holder of ticket number 869, Ms Selma D'Souza of Toronto.

Super Grand Gala chairperson and councillor Nick Papa said was ecstatic with how well the evening went.

"It was a super grand night," Mr. Papa proclaimed.

"We received lots of sponsorship to achieve our goal of over $200,000 to be donated to the new Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts and towards arts programming in bringing performances from every corner of the world.

"This not only will promote the arts, but will also promote our great town outside Ontario and outside the country and I am considering doing it again next year all for the love of the arts," he added.
