2008 Senior of the Year!
RICHMOND HILL – Mayor Dave Barrow, on behalf of Members
of Council, presented the 2008
Senior of the Year Award to Fern Russell of Richmond Hill.
Ms Russell has been an active volunteer at the M.L. McConaghy
Seniors’ Centre for the past 12 years and has logged
approximately 1,979 hours of volunteer service since 2000!
At the Centre, Ms Russell does everything from preparing and
serving food for the lunch program, to coordinating Bingo
sessions and holding executive positions on various councils.
She is currently President of the Richmond Hill Senior Citizens
Club 35.
Ms Russell also helps out around town, picking up fellow
seniors. She even calls when they are absent from the Centre
to check on them and wish them well. The Ontario Senior of
the Year Award gives each municipality in Ontario the opportunity
to honour one outstanding local senior a year. Recipients
must be older than 65 and must have helped make their communities
better places to live.
