Canadian Heritage Supports the Arts in
Richmond Hill
RICHMOND HILL –The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing
Arts received a $45,000 grant from the Ministry of Canadian
Heritage in support of the inaugural 2008/09 season.
“The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts is
delighted to receive this gift,” said Michael Grit,
Theatre Manager. “The 2008/09 professional season is
reflective of the rich cultural diversity of the community.
The season is designed to bring the community together to
celebrate and unite individuals through performance.”
The funding is directed through the Arts Presentation Canada
program which gives Canadians direct access to a variety of
quality artistic experiences through financial assistance
to arts presenters or organizations that support them. The
result gives Canadians more access to artists’ work
from all over Canada that reflect its rich cultural diversity.
Launched in 2001, Arts Presentation Canada has financially
supported more than 1,000 events or season presenters of live
professional performances and other similar activities in
more than 224 cities or communities.
The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts will officially
open on Saturday, November 1, 2008. Tickets for the inaugural
season are now on sale. Patrons can order tickets by calling
905-787-8811 or by visiting www.richmondhill.ca and clicking
on the theatre logo.
The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts is the largest
and finest performing arts facility in York Region. This venue
includes a 631-seat auditorium, a 34 line fly tower, a hydraulic
lift orchestra pit, state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment,
a multi-purpose rehearsal hall, gallery space for visual art
displays, and an outdoor plaza. The Richmond Hill Centre for
the Performing Arts is located at the corner of Yonge and
Wright Streets in downtown Richmond Hill and will contribute
to the economic revitalization of the downtown core.
