Canadian Heritage Supports the Arts in Richmond Hill

RICHMOND HILL –The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts received a $45,000 grant from the Ministry of Canadian Heritage in support of the inaugural 2008/09 season.

“The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts is delighted to receive this gift,” said Michael Grit, Theatre Manager. “The 2008/09 professional season is reflective of the rich cultural diversity of the community. The season is designed to bring the community together to celebrate and unite individuals through performance.”

The funding is directed through the Arts Presentation Canada program which gives Canadians direct access to a variety of quality artistic experiences through financial assistance to arts presenters or organizations that support them. The result gives Canadians more access to artists’ work from all over Canada that reflect its rich cultural diversity. Launched in 2001, Arts Presentation Canada has financially supported more than 1,000 events or season presenters of live professional performances and other similar activities in more than 224 cities or communities.

The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts will officially open on Saturday, November 1, 2008. Tickets for the inaugural season are now on sale. Patrons can order tickets by calling 905-787-8811 or by visiting www.richmondhill.ca and clicking on the theatre logo.

The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts is the largest and finest performing arts facility in York Region. This venue includes a 631-seat auditorium, a 34 line fly tower, a hydraulic lift orchestra pit, state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment, a multi-purpose rehearsal hall, gallery space for visual art displays, and an outdoor plaza. The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts is located at the corner of Yonge and Wright Streets in downtown Richmond Hill and will contribute to the economic revitalization of the downtown core.
