Yonge Subway Task Force To Be Formed
Richmond Hill - Council has received the Yonge Subway Advisory
Task Force draft Terms of Reference from the Region of York.
Over the past 10 months, Town staff has been meeting with
York Region Transit (YRT) staff, discussing various matters
related to the Yonge Street and Highway 7 Bus Rapid Transitway
and Yonge Subway extension projects.
The Yonge Subway Advisory Task Force is intended to provide
a forum for input and deliberation from key stakeholders (including
affected municipalities) into all aspects of the design and
delivery of the Yonge Subway extension. The draft Terms of
Reference formally outline the group's membership structure
and mandate amongst all participating municipalities.
Council has requested that two Members of Council and one
non-elected member be appointed to the Task Force to represent
the interests of the Richmond Hill community. Council has
recommended a greater emphasis on motivating for the timely
delivery of the Yonge Subway extension. Council strongly supports
the extension of the subway to Richmond Hill in order to provide
for better public transit access, more pedestrian-friendly
community, and the environmental and economic benefits. To
date, Region of York staff has commenced functional design
work for the Yonge Subway extension from Finch Avenue to the
Richmond Hill Centre at Hwy. 7.
