(From Oak Ridges Community Centre & Park Project Steering
Committee Meeting held on Monday, October 29, 2007; Agenda
Item No. 1).
Oak Ridges Community Centre & Park
Project Moving Forward
Council granted approval for staff to issue a Request For
Proposal (RFP) for the selection of architectural services
for the Oak Ridges Community Centre Project. Oak Ridges Community
Centre & Park is to be located at Bayview Avenue and Bethesda
Sideroad, near the shore of Lake Wilcox.
This project is of significance as the Town is taking special
consideration in maintaining many of the natural features
in the area. To ensure an optimal balance between the park
and nature, plans for the community centre and water-front
park will incorporate Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) initiatives, working towards a Silver LEED Certification.
Other projects that are indirectly related to the Oak Ridges
Community Centre & Park project also include the Bayview
Park Lane and Sandbanks Road extensions and a hypolimnetic
withdrawal project to treat the bottom waters of Lake Wilcox
to eliminate the phosphorus accumulation and improve the habitat
potential.
Construction in the area is expected to begin in summer 2008
and will provide recreational opportunities for the growing
area of Oak Ridges. For more information, contact Lynton Friedberg,
Commissioner of Parks, Recreation & Culture, at (905)

Agenda Item No. 1).
