A Plan of the People

The Town of Richmond Hill is about to embark on a journey that it hopes will see residents, businesses and community groups take part in a number of interactive events to help shape the community’s future.

The official launch of People Plan Richmond Hill will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the McConaghy Seniors’ Centre.

People from across the community have been asked to share their thoughts about what Richmond Hill should be like in the future.

“We’re excited about the People Plan Richmond Hill project,” Mayor Dave Barrow said. “We hope that the community will embrace the project and join us at the launch.”

At the Oct. 23 event, participants will learn what People Plan Richmond Hill is all about and how they can participate in the project. They will learn why the Strategic Plan and Official Plan are important documents and how they will affect the community. The evening will begin with a presentation by Mr. Barrow, followed by an engagement exercise, where participants will work as a group or as individuals to share how they feel about the town and their vision for its future. Light refreshments and entertainment will also be provided.

“We plan on engaging the community in new and innovative ways, including using a number of new online tools via the town’s website,” Mr. Barrow said. “Town staff will also bring People Plan Richmond Hill to the streets, meeting with community groups, visiting schools and hosting special focus group meetings, hoping to speak to many people throughout Richmond Hill.”

To reserve a seat, those interested in attending should call Mary Wong at 905-771-8800, ext. 3859 or e-mail peopleplan@richmondhill.ca. Those who are unable to attend, but would like to be involved, can visit www.richmondhill.ca/peopleplan for a list of upcoming events.

The McConaghy Seniors’ Centre is a 10100 Yonge St.
