Richmond
Hill Mayor Appointed to GO Transit
Board
Richmond Hill - Richmond Hill, April 19,
2007 - For the first time ever, the Town of Richmond Hill
now has representation on the GO Transit Board of Directors
thanks to the recent appointment of Mayor Dave Barrow.
“I’m honoured to be the first member of Richmond
Hill Council to ever be appointed to the GO Transit Board,”
said Mayor Barrow. “I am excited to get right to work
on helping shape GO Transit. I understand the issues facing
our Town and Region and feel I will be able to address these
as a member of the only inter-regional transit system in the
GTA.”
Mayor Barrow’s term on the Board began on March 7,
2007 and will go until September 6, 2009. Mayor Barrow is
one of 13 positions appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in
Council on the recommendation of the Minister of Transportation.
“I recognize that traffic is one of the biggest challenges
we face, not only in Richmond Hill, but across the GTA. It
will be my job to work with the Board to ensure that Go Transit
continues to grow as an appealing option for commuters by
being as convenient, accessible,
efficient and environmentally-friendly as possible,”
said Mayor Barrow.
Mayor Barrow has a wealth of experience in transit-related
matters as he has been a member of the Town’s Transit
Committee since 2001 and is now the Richmond Hill Director
on the York Region Rapid Transit Corporation.
GO Transit is Canada's first inter-regional transit system

and policy framework for GO, and the GO Board provides business

at the call of the chair. Members of the Board hold office
for a term not exceeding three years and are eligible for
reappointment for successive terms not exceeding three years
