La Barge York's chief for two more years
Richmond Hill - Chief Armand La Barge will
serve as York Region's top cop for at least another two years.
Last Friday, the region's police services board extended Chief
La Barge's tenure until December 2009.
A 34-year veteran of the York force, he was originally appointed
to the chief's office in 2002, succeeding Robert Middaugh.
"I'm honoured that the board has given me the opportunity
to serve our citizens for another two years," Chief La
Barge said in a statement.
"I've always been proud to wear the York Regional Police
uniform and humbled to be the chief of this great police service.
I look forward to working with the board, the men and women
of the York Regional Police and all our community partners
in keeping York Region a safe and secure place for all of
us."
The extension of Chief La Barge's contract will ensure business
plans are implemented, police board chairperson Dave Barrow
said.
"Chief La Barge is an outstanding police leader and
he has built incredible relationships of trust with the community,"
Mr. Barrow said. "The board recognizes the significant
achievements of York Regional Police under his leadership
and the chief's passion for policing and community safety
will continue to serve our citizens and the organization well."
