Town Unveils New Solar Water Heating System

On April 2, 2008 Mayor Dave Barrow, Members of Council and Town staff unveiled the Town's new Solar Water Heating System used to heat water at the main Municipal Offices. The System has been implemented as part of the Town’s Energy Management Plan to conserve energy by 10 per cent and reduce greenhouse gases by 2012.

Dancers from the Kurdish House Dance Group perform

More than 600 Richmond Hill residents and business owners joined Mayor Dave Barrow and Members of Council on March 20, for the second annual Mayor's Norooz Celebration, the traditional Iranian New Year holiday. Guests enjoyed dinner while being entertained by traditional music and dance performances. Proceeds from ticket sales raised much-needed funds for the arts through the Mayor’s Endowment Fund for the Arts.

Community Volunteer For Heritage Achievements

Community Volunteer For Heritage Achievements

On behalf of Council, Mayor Dave Barrow recognized local resident, Penny Parmenter, with an Ontario Heritage Trust recognition certificate and achievement pin as part of the 2007 Heritage Community Recognition Program. The program celebrates community volunteers for significant contributions to heritage conservation in their communities. Ms. Parmenter, who was nominated by the Town, was recognized for her passionate and tireless work in the community, preserving heritage and educating others.

St. Mary's Anglican Church Restoration

St. Mary's Anglican Church Restoration, Richmond Hill

On January 28, representatives of the newly-restored St. Mary’s Anglican Church, were presented with a cheque for $10,000 by Mayor Dave Barrow and members of the Downtown Task Force from the Village Core Façade Assistance Grant Program. St. Mary’s Anglican Church recently completed an exterior façade restoration project, replacing windows, repairing bricks and refurbishing historical features of this original building. The church, which dates back to 1872, has one of the recognizable rooftop spires that make up downtown Richmond Hill’s unique skyline. The Church applied for funding from the grant program in 2007 as part of their overall efforts to restore the historically designated building.
